Our Environmental Commitment
Mainstay Insurance Group, Inc. constantly seeks to mitigate the environmental impact of our business practices. We believe that while the short term cost and benefit analysis may suggest that investing in green solutions is too costly, the long-term business, social and ethical benefits prove that going green is the right thing to do. Therefore, we have implemented various “Green” initiatives that we believe will boost employee, customer and business partner involvement. They are as follows:
- 1. Organization of a recycling program in a designated area which promotes responsible reduction of waste. This program is open to paper, metal, glass and electronics. Recycling bins are placed in convenient locations throughout the office.
- 2. We cut energy costs by installing CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) and/or LED light bulbs which use less energy for lighting and have longer life spans.
- 3. Economical management of office space temperatures. A change of two to three degrees Fahrenheit results in significant energy savings to our business and the environment.
- 4. We use water filters on our taps instead of bottled water. Americans spend more than $8 Billion a year on bottled water. We gain comparable purity and taste by installing a water filter that, long-term, cost pennies a gallon.
- 5. We purchase only energy efficient equipment and appliances such as refrigerators and copy machines. Today’s models can use 40% less energy than those sold as recently as five years ago.
- 6. Shut down of equipment. Mainstay employees turn off everything possible before leaving the office for the day. This includes computers, printers, external hard drives, and other office gadgets.
- 7. We work first with like-minded business partners. Many other businesses are “going green”. Part of being a green business is striving to ensure that our supply chain is as green as we are. Mainstay seeks out green vendors for our business needs.
